Common Name:
Ornamental Grape Vine
Description:
The ornamental grape vine (Vitis vinifera – Ornamental) is a fast-growing, deciduous climber prized for its lush green foliage and spectacular autumn colour rather than its fruit. Unlike fruiting grape vines, this variety is selected for its vibrant seasonal display, with leaves turning brilliant shades of red, orange, and purple in autumn before falling. It is perfect for covering pergolas, fences, trellises, and arbours, providing dense summer shade while allowing winter sun to filter through. Small, greenish flowers appear in spring, occasionally followed by small, inedible or insignificant grapes. This low-maintenance vine thrives in full sun with well-drained soil and is highly drought-tolerant once established.
