Common Name:
Sandankwa Viburnum
Description:
Viburnum suspensum, commonly known as Sandankwa Viburnum, is a dense, evergreen shrub valued for its lush, leathery foliage and versatility in hedging and screening. Native to Japan and suitable for Melbourne’s temperate climate, this plant features dark green, ovate leaves with a slightly serrated edge, forming a tidy and robust mound. In spring and intermittently through the warmer months, it produces small, tubular, pale pink to white flowers in clusters, followed by red berries that mature to black and are attractive to birds. Viburnum suspensum thrives in full sun to part shade and adapts well to a range of soils, provided they are well-drained. It tolerates pruning exceptionally well, making it ideal for formal hedging or natural screens. Its drought tolerance, low maintenance requirements, and resistance to most pests and diseases make it a reliable performer in residential and commercial landscapes.
