Common Name:
Dense Fence™ Sweet Viburnum

Description:
Viburnum odoratissimum 'VOC1' PBR, marketed as Dense Fence™, is an improved cultivar of the traditional Sweet Viburnum. This evergreen shrub is renowned for its dense foliage, featuring finer leaves and shorter internodes, which contribute to its compact form. New growth displays a subtle reddish hue, adding seasonal interest. In spring, it produces clusters of small, fragrant white flowers, enhancing its appeal. Dense Fence™ is ideal for creating privacy screens, hedges, or serving as a small feature tree. Its rapid growth rate allows it to form an effective barrier quickly, requiring less pruning than the common form. This cultivar thrives in full sun to part shade and is adaptable to most well-drained soils. Once established, it exhibits moderate drought tolerance and can withstand light frosts, making it well-suited to Melbourne's climate. Regular watering during the establishment phase and the application of slow-release fertiliser in spring will promote optimal growth. Pruning can be performed as needed to maintain the desired shape and size.
