Common Name:
David Viburnum
Description:
Viburnum davidii, commonly known as David Viburnum, is a compact, evergreen shrub prized for its architectural foliage and low-maintenance growth habit. Native to western China, it has proven itself highly adaptable to Melbourne gardens, thriving in part shade and tolerating a range of soil types. Its standout feature is the deeply veined, leathery, dark green leaves arranged in attractive, symmetrical whorls, which give it a distinctive, textural presence in the landscape. In spring, it produces small white flowers held in flat-topped clusters. When both male and female plants are present, these are followed by striking metallic blue berries in autumn and winter. Viburnum davidii prefers a sheltered position with protection from harsh afternoon sun or strong winds. Its tidy, dome-shaped growth and moderate size make it ideal for borders, understorey planting, and low hedges.
