Common Name:
Society Garlic
Description:
Tulbaghia 'Dark Star' is a hardy, clump-forming perennial known for its fine, grass-like, blue-grey foliage and long-lasting display of star-shaped pink flowers. Flowering from spring through to late autumn, it adds vibrant colour to gardens for extended periods. This low-maintenance plant thrives in full sun to part shade and is tolerant of both drought and boggy conditions once established. Its compact growth habit makes it ideal for borders, edging, containers, and mass plantings in Melbourne gardens. 'Dark Star' performs well in a variety of soil types, preferring well-drained soils enriched with compost. An application of slow-release fertiliser in early spring promotes vigorous growth and flowering. Pruning is generally not required, but cutting back old foliage can rejuvenate the plant.
