Common Name:
Blue Shooting Stars Toad Lily / Garden Orchid
Description:
Tricyrtis Garden Orchid ‘Blue Shooting Stars’ is an elegant perennial renowned for its exotic orchid-like blooms that appear late in the season, adding colour and intrigue to shaded areas of the garden. The star-shaped flowers are pale lilac to blue, often speckled with purple, and are borne on arching stems from late summer into mid-autumn. Each bloom is intricately patterned, giving a jewel-like quality that stands out in woodland borders or shaded beds. Its lush, lance-shaped foliage creates a dense clump of greenery through spring and summer before the spectacular flowers emerge. Perfectly suited to Melbourne’s climate, this cultivar thrives in part to full shade with humus-rich, moist but well-drained soil. It prefers consistent watering during dry spells and benefits from mulching to retain soil moisture. A favourite among plant collectors, it provides a show-stopping late-season display where many other perennials have finished flowering.
