Common Name:
Flamingo Chinese Mahogany
Description:
Toona sinensis 'Flamingo' is a striking deciduous tree known for its spectacular flush of bright pink new foliage in spring. As the season progresses, the vibrant pink leaves mature to a soft green, creating a stunning contrast. In autumn, the foliage turns warm shades of yellow and gold before shedding. This fast-growing tree also develops an attractive, upright form with a spreading canopy, making it an excellent shade tree.
In summer, mature trees may produce clusters of small, fragrant, creamy-white flowers, though the tree is primarily grown for its ornamental foliage. Toona sinensis 'Flamingo' is hardy, tolerating a range of soils, including poor and dry conditions, once established. It thrives in full sun and well-drained soil, making it a fantastic choice for feature planting, avenue planting, or as a shade tree in larger gardens.
