Common Name:
Straight and Narrow Lilly Pilly
Description:
Syzygium australe (SAN01) Straight and Narrow™ is a specially selected, Australian native lilly pilly prized for its ultra-slim, upright growth habit and dense, evergreen foliage. Bred for tight spaces and modern screening applications, this cultivar forms a natural column, making it ideal for narrow garden beds, driveway borders, or as a privacy hedge. The glossy green foliage has coppery new growth, providing year-round interest, and in spring to early summer, it produces fluffy white flowers followed by attractive pink-red berries that are edible and bird-attracting.
Thriving in Melbourne’s climate, Straight and Narrow™ is well-suited to full sun to part shade positions and is highly adaptable to a wide range of soil types, including clay and sandy soils, as long as they are well-drained. It is resistant to psyllid damage (a common pest in lilly pillies), making it a lower-maintenance option for formal hedging. This variety responds well to pruning and shaping, tolerates humidity and light frost, and is a standout choice for vertical green screening in both residential and commercial landscapes.
