Common Name:
Korean Lilac 'Miss Kim'
Description:
Syringa patula 'Miss Kim' is a compact deciduous lilac renowned for its highly fragrant, icy lavender blooms and exceptional autumn foliage. Blooming slightly later than common lilacs, usually in mid to late spring, 'Miss Kim' produces dense clusters of pale purple buds that open to soft lavender-blue flowers, fading to near white as they age. The flowers are intensely perfumed, attracting bees and butterflies. This cultivar is highly regarded for its neat, rounded habit and superior mildew resistance. Its deep green foliage transforms into vibrant shades of burgundy and red in autumn, making it a multi-season highlight in the garden. 'Miss Kim' thrives in full sun with well-drained, slightly alkaline soils and is tolerant of Melbourne’s cool winters and dry summers once established. Ideal for low hedging, mixed borders, or as a standalone specimen in small gardens.
