Common Name: Coast Redwood
Description:
The Coast Redwood (Sequoia sempervirens) is one of the world’s tallest trees, renowned for its towering height, straight trunk, and soft, dark green foliage. Native to the coastal regions of California, this long-lived evergreen conifer thrives in moist, well-drained soils and prefers a temperate climate with moderate rainfall. Its reddish-brown, deeply furrowed bark provides excellent fire resistance, while its feathery, needle-like leaves create a lush, dense canopy. Though it reaches incredible heights in its natural habitat, it can still be grown successfully in large gardens and parklands in Melbourne. This fast-growing tree is ideal for creating a natural screen, windbreak, or impressive feature tree, providing year-round greenery and an awe-inspiring presence.
