Common Name:
Autumn Joy Stonecrop
Description:
Sedum telephium 'Autumn Joy', also known as Autumn Joy Stonecrop, is a hardy, herbaceous perennial adored for its succulent foliage and long-lasting flower heads that bring colour and structure to the garden from late summer into autumn. This upright, clump-forming plant features fleshy, blue-green leaves and flat-topped clusters of tiny, star-shaped pink flowers that deepen to a rich coppery-red as the season progresses. Drought-tolerant and low-maintenance, it thrives in Melbourne’s climate, particularly in well-drained soils and full sun. Autumn Joy is ideal for adding seasonal interest to perennial borders, rockeries, and cottage gardens. It also performs well in pots and is a favourite among pollinators, especially bees and butterflies. The flower heads persist well into winter, providing visual interest even when dried, and can be left standing or trimmed as desired.
