Common Name:
Stonecrop
Matrona Stonecrop
Description:
Sedum ‘Matrona’ is a striking upright perennial grown for its bold architectural form, dusky purple stems, blue-green succulent foliage, and large flat heads of soft pink flowers. This elegant variety adds strong structure and contrast to the garden, making it an excellent choice for perennial borders, gravel gardens, cottage plantings, and feature pots. In Melbourne, it performs best in a full sun position with well-drained soil and thrives in dry to moderately moist conditions once established. Flowering from late summer into autumn, it produces broad flower heads that gradually deepen in colour and are highly attractive to bees and other beneficial pollinators. Even when not in flower, the smoky foliage and dark stems provide long-lasting ornamental value. Sedum ‘Matrona’ is easy to maintain, drought tolerant once established, and highly effective when mass planted or used as a contrast plant among softer-textured companions.
