Common Name:
Desert Black Stonecrop

Description:
Sedum ‘Desert Black’ is a dramatic, low-growing succulent perennial distinguished by its deep, dark foliage and compact habit. The nearly black, fleshy leaves form tight rosettes that spread into tidy, weed-suppressing mats, adding bold contrast and texture to rockeries, borders, and mixed containers. In late summer to early autumn, clusters of small, star-shaped pink to soft red flowers emerge, providing a striking contrast against the moody foliage. Ideal for Melbourne’s climate, ‘Desert Black’ thrives in full sun with excellent drainage and is highly drought-tolerant once established. It performs beautifully in hot, dry areas and requires minimal maintenance, making it a favourite for modern landscapes, coastal gardens, and water-wise plantings. The plant’s compact form and colour intensity remain stable throughout the growing season, delivering year-round appeal with minimal fuss.
