Common Name:
Young Lycidas rose
Description:
The ‘Young Lycidas’ rose is a bold and captivating English shrub rose, bred by David Austin, admired for its large, cupped blooms in deep shades of magenta, pink, and crimson. The outer petals sometimes reveal a silvery or purplish tinge, adding dimension and drama to each flower. This variety offers a rich and complex fragrance, blending notes of traditional tea rose with an old rose character and a touch of cedarwood. It has a bushy, upright growth habit with healthy, dark green foliage and excellent repeat-flowering performance across the warmer months. In Melbourne gardens, this rose thrives in full sun with well-drained, fertile soil, and benefits from regular feeding and deadheading. It’s ideal for planting as a specimen shrub, in mixed borders, or in large pots where its striking colour and strong scent can be fully appreciated.
