Common Name:
Rose 'Mermaid'
Description:
Rose 'Mermaid' is a vigorous climbing rose first introduced in 1918, known for its large, single pale yellow flowers and glossy evergreen foliage. The blooms are exceptionally striking, each spanning up to 12–14 cm across, with soft creamy-yellow petals surrounding prominent golden stamens that attract bees and other pollinators. Flowering begins in late spring and continues through summer and into autumn, with intermittent blooms often lasting until the cooler months. The plant is highly vigorous, with long, arching stems that can quickly cover a wall, fence, or pergola, making it an excellent choice for large spaces. In Melbourne gardens, 'Mermaid' thrives in full sun and well-drained soil, though it requires strong support and regular pruning to keep its rampant growth under control. Its lush, leathery green leaves and sheer size make it both dramatic and useful as a screening rose.
