Common Name:
Rose 'Frau Dagmar Hastrup'
Description:
Rose 'Frau Dagmar Hastrup' is a compact and resilient rugosa rose known for its fragrant, soft pink blooms and excellent hardiness. This heritage variety, originally bred in Denmark in the early 20th century, produces single, five-petalled flowers with a delicate scent and prominent golden stamens at the centre. The blooms appear in abundance during spring and early summer, with repeat flushes often continuing into autumn. Its foliage is deeply veined, dark green, and leathery—typical of rugosa roses—turning a rich yellow in autumn. Following flowering, large ornamental red hips develop, adding seasonal interest and attracting birds. Exceptionally tolerant of poor soils, salt spray, and windy conditions, this rose is ideal for Melbourne gardens, particularly coastal or exposed areas. Its low, spreading habit also makes it well-suited to informal hedging or mass plantings.
