Common Name:
Fragrant Saltbush
Description:
Rhagodia parabolica is a hardy Australian native shrub valued for its dense silver-grey foliage, natural drought tolerance and versatility in coastal and inland landscapes. Its soft, rounded leaves create a striking contrast against greener foliage plants and provide year-round interest in native gardens, low-maintenance borders and screening applications. Small, inconspicuous flowers appear through spring and summer, followed by decorative red berries that attract birdlife. Well-suited to Melbourne’s climate, this adaptable shrub thrives in full sun and well-drained soils, including sandy and coastal conditions. It responds well to pruning, making it useful for informal hedging, erosion control and habitat planting. Once established, it is highly tolerant of dry conditions, wind and light frost.
