Common Name:
Chanticleer Ornamental Pear

Description:
Pyrus calleryana ‘Chanticleer’ is a highly popular deciduous ornamental pear tree valued for its elegant upright form, masses of spring flowers, and brilliant autumn foliage colour. This refined cultivar develops a neat pyramidal canopy with dense glossy green foliage that provides excellent structure and shade through spring and summer before transforming into vibrant shades of red, orange, purple, and burgundy during autumn. In early spring, the branches become covered in abundant clusters of white blossoms that create a spectacular seasonal display and attract bees and beneficial pollinators. Its narrow upright habit makes ‘Chanticleer’ particularly well suited to avenue planting, urban landscapes, screening, and smaller gardens where space is limited. In Melbourne’s climate, it performs exceptionally well in full sun with well-drained soil and regular watering during establishment. Once mature, it is tolerant of drought, pollution, frost, and a wide range of soil conditions, making it an outstanding low-maintenance feature tree for residential and commercial landscapes.
