Common Name:
First Blush Cherry
Description:
Prunus × incam ‘JFS-KW14’, marketed as First Blush™, is a highly ornamental deciduous flowering cherry valued for its exceptionally early spring blossoms, compact growth habit, and attractive seasonal colour. This elegant ornamental tree produces masses of soft blush-pink flowers on bare branches in late winter to very early spring, often flowering before many other cherry varieties. The abundant blossoms create a spectacular display that attracts bees and brings early-season colour to the garden. Fresh green foliage emerges after flowering and remains dense through summer before developing warm shades of orange and red in autumn. First Blush™ develops a neat rounded canopy with a balanced branching structure, making it ideal for feature planting, avenue planting, smaller gardens, and urban landscapes. In Melbourne’s climate, it performs best in full sun with fertile, well-drained soil and regular watering during establishment. Its early flowering habit and reliable ornamental performance make it a standout choice for extending seasonal interest in the landscape.
