Common Name:
Higan Cherry 'Falling Snow'
Description:
Prunus subhirtella 'Falling Snow' is a graceful ornamental flowering cherry prized for its elegant weeping habit and spectacular display of pure white blossoms in early spring. The masses of delicate single flowers appear along the bare cascading branches before the fresh green foliage emerges, creating the appearance of falling snow, from which it takes its name. During autumn, the foliage develops attractive shades of golden yellow to orange before leaf fall, adding seasonal interest. Well suited to Melbourne's climate, it performs best in a sunny position with fertile, well-drained soil and benefits from regular watering while establishing. This compact ornamental tree is an excellent choice as a feature specimen, in cottage gardens, Japanese-inspired landscapes, or as a striking focal point in lawns and garden beds.
