Common Name:
Dwarf Sweet Pea Shrub
Description:
Polygala dalmaisiana 'Compacta' is a small, evergreen shrub known for its vibrant, pea-like purple flowers with soft, fringed petals that bloom almost year-round, peaking in spring and summer. This compact variety features dense, bright green foliage, making it an excellent choice for low hedging, borders, and pots. Thriving in Melbourne’s climate, it prefers well-drained soil and a sunny to partly shaded position, with excellent drought tolerance once established. ‘Compacta’ is low-maintenance, requiring only light pruning after flowering to maintain its shape and encourage continuous blooms. Its nectar-rich flowers attract bees, butterflies, and other pollinators, making it a valuable addition to wildlife-friendly gardens.
