Common Name:
Phygelius ‘Funfair Wine’

Description:
Phygelius ‘Funfair Wine’, also known as Cape Fuchsia, is a compact, semi-evergreen perennial prized for its abundant tubular flowers and long flowering season. This variety showcases deep burgundy-red flower buds that open into wine-coloured, trumpet-shaped blooms with soft yellow throats, held in drooping clusters above attractive green foliage. Flowering prolifically from late spring through to early autumn, it brings a vibrant and tropical feel to garden beds, borders, and containers. Well-suited to Melbourne’s climate, ‘Funfair Wine’ thrives in full sun to part shade and performs best in moist, well-drained soil with protection from harsh afternoon heat. Regular deadheading will encourage extended blooming. Compact in habit, this cultivar is more restrained than other Phygelius types, making it ideal for smaller spaces or mixed perennial plantings. Its nectar-rich flowers are especially attractive to birds and pollinators, adding ecological value to its visual appeal.
