Common Name:

Phlox 'Scarlet Flame' (Creeping Phlox)

Description:

Phlox 'Scarlet Flame' is a vibrant, low-growing evergreen perennial renowned for its spectacular carpet of brilliant scarlet-pink flowers that create a striking display throughout spring. This compact, spreading ground cover forms a dense mat of fine, needle-like green foliage, becoming almost completely smothered in masses of small, five-petalled, star-shaped blooms during its peak flowering season. Growing to approximately 15 cm tall and spreading up to 60 cm wide, it is an excellent choice for rockeries, garden borders, retaining walls, cascading over edges and mass plantings. Well suited to Melbourne's temperate climate, Phlox 'Scarlet Flame' thrives in full sun to part shade and prefers well-drained soil with moderate moisture. Once established, it offers good drought tolerance and requires minimal maintenance, making it ideal for water-wise gardens. A light trim after flowering helps maintain its compact habit and encourages healthy, dense growth. Its profusion of colourful blooms attracts bees and butterflies, while its spreading foliage provides attractive year-round ground coverage. With its brilliant spring colour, hardy nature and versatile landscaping applications, Phlox 'Scarlet Flame' is a beautiful addition to cottage gardens, rock gardens and contemporary landscapes.
