Common Name:
Persian Spire Persian Ironwood
Description:
Parrotia persica ‘Persian Spire’ is a narrow, upright deciduous ornamental tree selected for its exceptional autumn colour, strong columnar form, and year-round landscape appeal. This refined cultivar of Persian Ironwood features dense green foliage through spring and summer before erupting into brilliant shades of crimson, orange, gold, and burgundy during autumn. In late winter to early spring, small clusters of deep red flowers appear along the bare branches, providing subtle seasonal interest before the foliage emerges. As the tree matures, the bark develops attractive exfoliating patterns in tones of grey, cream, and olive, adding further ornamental value during winter. ‘Persian Spire’ is particularly well suited to Melbourne’s climate, thriving in full sun to part shade with well-drained soil. Its narrow upright habit makes it ideal for smaller gardens, avenue planting, screening, and urban landscapes where space is limited. Once established, it is relatively drought tolerant and highly resilient to varying seasonal conditions.
