Common Name:
Burkwood Osmanthus

Description:
Osmanthus x burkwoodii, commonly known as Burkwood Osmanthus, is an elegant evergreen shrub prized for its dense, glossy foliage and intensely fragrant white flowers. A hybrid between Osmanthus decorus and Osmanthus delavayi, it features small, dark green, leathery leaves and a naturally rounded, compact growth habit. In early to mid-spring, it bursts into bloom with masses of tubular white flowers that emit a perfume reminiscent of orange blossom, often detectable from several metres away. Well-suited to Melbourne's climate, Burkwood Osmanthus thrives in full sun to part shade and prefers well-drained soil. It's ideal for hedging, screening, or as a fragrant feature plant near entrances, windows, or paths. Hardy and low-maintenance once established, it tolerates light frosts and moderate drought, and can be lightly pruned to maintain a neat shape or encourage dense growth. An excellent addition to formal and informal gardens alike.
