Common Name:
Kangaroo Fern
Description:
Microsorum diversifolium, commonly known as the Kangaroo Fern, is a hardy and versatile Australian native fern recognised for its distinctive, leathery fronds that vary in shape—ranging from lobed to elongated and undivided—often appearing on the same plant. This variation gives the plant a unique, textural appearance that sets it apart from more traditional ferns. Ideal for shaded gardens and indoor spaces, the Kangaroo Fern is both drought-tolerant once established and highly adaptable, growing equally well as a ground cover, in hanging baskets, or mounted in vertical displays. In Melbourne, it performs best in part shade to full shade with moist, well-drained soil, but it will tolerate dry shade and low humidity better than many other fern species. It is an evergreen fern that maintains its attractive foliage year-round and is excellent for naturalistic gardens, native landscapes, or low-maintenance indoor greenery.
