Common Name:
Chilean Jasmine
Description:
Mandevilla laxa, commonly known as Chilean Jasmine, is a vigorous deciduous climbing plant admired for its masses of elegant, trumpet-shaped white flowers and their rich, sweet fragrance. Flowering from late spring through to autumn, it creates a spectacular display that attracts bees and other beneficial pollinators while filling the garden with perfume. Its lush green foliage provides excellent seasonal coverage over fences, pergolas, arches and trellises before falling in winter, allowing sunlight through during the cooler months. Well suited to Melbourne's climate, Chilean Jasmine performs best in a warm, sunny to partly shaded position with fertile, well-drained soil and regular watering during establishment. Once established, it is relatively hardy and benefits from pruning after flowering to maintain shape and encourage vigorous new growth. An outstanding choice for creating a fragrant feature, softening structures or adding vertical interest to the garden.
