Common Name:
Showtime Crab Apple
Description:
Malus ‘Shotizam’, marketed as Showtime™, is a highly ornamental deciduous crab apple tree prized for its vibrant burgundy foliage, profuse spring flowering, and compact rounded form. New foliage emerges in rich purple-red tones during spring, maintaining strong colour throughout the growing season before developing warm autumn hues. In spring, masses of fragrant deep pink to crimson blossoms cover the branches, creating a spectacular floral display that attracts bees and beneficial pollinators. Following flowering, small glossy red ornamental fruits develop and often persist into winter, providing seasonal colour and food for birds. Showtime™ performs exceptionally well in Melbourne’s climate, thriving in full sun with fertile, well-drained soil and regular watering during establishment. Its compact habit makes it ideal for feature planting, smaller gardens, streetscapes, and decorative landscape designs. With excellent disease resistance and strong multi-season ornamental appeal, this variety is a standout choice for modern and traditional gardens alike.
