Common Name: Sweetheart Magnolia
Description: The Sweetheart Magnolia (Magnolia 'Sweetheart') is a deciduous tree renowned for its stunning floral display. In early spring, it produces large, fragrant, cup-shaped flowers that are deep pink on the outside and pale pink inside, creating a striking contrast. These blossoms emerge on bare branches, offering a vivid display before the foliage appears. The tree has an upright habit and, over time, can reach a height of approximately 5 to 6 metres with a spread of around 4 metres. It thrives in full sun to part shade and prefers a position protected from strong winds. The Sweetheart Magnolia flourishes in humus-rich, well-drained soils and is moderately frost-tolerant once established. Its vibrant blooms and manageable size make it an excellent choice for medium to large-sized gardens in Melbourne, adding a touch of elegance and seasonal interest.
