Common Name:
Alta Southern Magnolia

Description:
Magnolia grandiflora ‘Alta™’ is a narrow, upright evergreen magnolia prized for its dense vertical growth habit, glossy foliage, and beautifully fragrant flowers. This elegant cultivar has been specifically selected for its slim profile, making it ideal for tight planting spaces, screening, avenue planting, and formal landscapes where width is limited. The large dark green leathery leaves feature attractive bronze-brown undersides, creating year-round texture and colour contrast. During late spring and summer, ‘Alta™’ produces large creamy white cup-shaped flowers with a rich lemony fragrance, adding classic magnolia beauty to the garden. In Melbourne’s climate, it performs exceptionally well in full sun to part shade with well-drained soil and regular moisture during establishment. Once established, it is relatively drought tolerant and highly adaptable to urban conditions. Its neat upright form and evergreen foliage make it an excellent low-maintenance choice for privacy planting, feature avenues, and contemporary garden designs.
