Common Name:
Fire Dance Chinese Fringe Flower
Description:
Loropetalum chinense var. rubrum ‘Fire Dance’ is a vibrant evergreen shrub admired for its richly coloured burgundy foliage and masses of bright fringe-like flowers. This compact ornamental variety produces deep reddish-purple leaves year-round, creating striking contrast in garden beds, borders, and feature plantings. During spring, and often intermittently through the warmer months, clusters of vivid pink to magenta ribbon-like flowers cover the plant, attracting pollinators and adding a burst of colour to the landscape. ‘Fire Dance’ performs exceptionally well in Melbourne’s climate, thriving in full sun to part shade with well-drained soil enriched with organic matter. The foliage colour is typically strongest when grown in sunnier positions. Once established, it is relatively drought tolerant and low maintenance, making it ideal for modern gardens, informal hedging, and decorative pots. Its naturally rounded growth habit and colourful foliage provide year-round ornamental appeal.
