Common Name:
Goldflame Honeysuckle
Description:
Lonicera × heckrottii 'Goldflame' is a vigorous, deciduous to semi-evergreen climber renowned for its profusion of highly fragrant, tubular flowers. Blooming from late spring through autumn, the blossoms exhibit a striking two-tone coloration—deep pink to purplish-pink on the outside and golden yellow to orange within. These blooms are followed by small, inedible red berries that attract birds. The plant's oval, blue-green leaves and reddish stems provide additional ornamental interest. In Melbourne's climate, 'Goldflame' thrives in full sun to partial shade and prefers moist, well-drained soils. It is ideal for training over trellises, fences, or pergolas, and can also be pruned to form a dense shrub. Regular pruning after flowering encourages vigorous growth and maintains the desired shape.
