Common Name:
American Woodbine
Description:
Lonicera × americana, commonly known as American Woodbine, is a vigorous, deciduous climber celebrated for its ornamental appeal and sweetly fragrant flowers. This hybrid honeysuckle produces whorls of tubular blooms approximately 5 cm long, which open white and mature to creamy yellow with a flush of pink or purple. Flowering from late spring through summer, the blossoms are followed by ornamental red berries in autumn. The plant features ovate, dark green leaves and thrives in Melbourne's climate, preferring full sun to partial shade and moist, well-drained soils. Its robust growth makes it ideal for covering fences, trellises, or pergolas, adding vertical interest and fragrance to the garden.
