Common Name:
Giant Burmese Honeysuckle
Description:
Lonicera hildebrandiana is a spectacular evergreen to semi-evergreen climber admired for its enormous fragrant flowers and lush tropical appearance. This vigorous honeysuckle produces long tubular creamy-white flowers that gradually age to golden yellow and orange tones, often reaching up to 15 cm in length. The blooms appear from spring through summer and release a sweet perfume, particularly in the evening, attracting bees and other pollinators. Large glossy green leaves create dense coverage, making this climber ideal for pergolas, fences, and large trellises where a bold subtropical effect is desired. In Melbourne, it performs best in a warm sheltered position with full sun to part shade and fertile, well-drained soil. Protection from heavy frost is recommended while plants are establishing.
