Common Name:
Tulip Tree

Description:
Liriodendron tulipifera, commonly known as the Tulip Tree, is a majestic deciduous tree native to eastern North America. Renowned for its distinctive tulip-shaped flowers, which bloom in late spring to early summer, the tree showcases greenish-yellow petals with an orange hue at the base. Its leaves are uniquely lobed, resembling a lyre or tulip silhouette, and transition to a vibrant yellow in autumn, offering seasonal interest. The Tulip Tree thrives in well-drained, slightly acidic soils and prefers full sun exposure. Given its rapid growth rate and substantial mature size, it is ideal for large landscapes and parks. In Melbourne's climate, providing adequate moisture during establishment will support its growth, though once established, it exhibits moderate drought tolerance.
