Common Name:
Burning Love Leucothoe
Description:
Leucothoe ‘Burning Love’ is a striking evergreen shrub admired for its dramatic colourful foliage and compact, arching growth habit. This ornamental variety produces vibrant new growth in shades of fiery red, burgundy, and bronze, gradually maturing to deep glossy green while still retaining rich seasonal colour throughout the year. During spring, delicate clusters of small white bell-shaped flowers appear beneath the foliage, adding subtle ornamental interest. ‘Burning Love’ performs exceptionally well in Melbourne’s cooler and temperate garden conditions, thriving in moist, well-drained acidic soil enriched with organic matter. It prefers part shade to sheltered positions where its foliage colour remains most vibrant and protected from harsh afternoon sun. Its graceful cascading form makes it ideal for woodland gardens, shaded borders, mass planting, and decorative pots. This low-maintenance shrub provides year-round foliage interest and works beautifully in layered garden designs.
