Common Name:
Allard’s Lavender
Description:
Lavandula x allardii, commonly known as Allard’s Lavender, is a vigorous and highly aromatic evergreen shrub valued for its robust growth and extended flowering period. A natural hybrid between Lavandula dentata and Lavandula latifolia, it features soft, grey-green foliage with a slightly toothed edge, releasing a pleasant fragrance when brushed. Tall stems carry elongated spikes of rich violet-blue flowers from spring through to autumn, providing long-lasting colour and strong visual impact in the garden. Exceptionally well-suited to Melbourne’s climate, it thrives in full sun and well-drained soil, showing excellent drought tolerance once established. Its larger size and fast growth make it ideal for informal hedging, screening, or as a feature planting, while regular pruning will help maintain a dense, tidy shape and encourage prolific flowering.
