Common Name:
Panda Plant (also known as Chocolate Soldier or Pussy Ears)
Description:
Kalanchoe tomentosa is a perennial succulent known for its thick, velvety-grey-green leaves edged in distinctive brown margins, creating a soft, tactile appearance. The foliage forms a compact rosette or low mound that typically remains under 30 cm tall. In late winter to early spring, it may produce small, bell-shaped flowers that are usually pale yellow with yellowish-green tones, though flowering is occasional in indoor settings. This drought-tolerant and low-maintenance plant thrives in well-draining soil and bright light—morning sun or strong indirect light enhances the leaf pattern. Although it tolerates indoor environments well, it can also be grown outdoors in temperate, frost-free climates. It is suited to containers, rockeries, succulent display gardens, or as a charming desk or shelf plant.
