Common Name:
Halcyon Hosta
Description:
Hosta hybrid 'Halcyon' is a standout shade-loving perennial known for its striking blue-grey foliage and neat, compact habit. Part of the Tardiana group, 'Halcyon' is prized in Melbourne gardens for its resilience, strong form, and slug resistance compared to other hostas. Its heart-shaped, corrugated leaves retain their rich blue tone well into the growing season, especially in part to full shade. In mid to late summer, it produces slender stems of lavender to pale lilac, bell-shaped flowers that rise above the foliage, subtly attracting bees and other pollinators. Ideal for shaded borders, woodland gardens, or underplanting trees and shrubs, 'Halcyon' also performs beautifully in containers. This hosta thrives in moist, well-drained soil rich in organic matter and benefits from consistent watering, especially during warm, dry spells. Its elegant structure and cool-toned leaves make it a favourite for creating texture and contrast in shaded spaces.
