Common Name:
Blackfoot Hosta
Description:
Hosta 'Blackfoot' is a refined miniature to small hosta variety, ideal for collectors or gardeners seeking compact interest in shaded spaces. It features narrow, lance-shaped leaves with a bright gold centre and striking dark green margins, offering strong contrast and vibrant appeal. The foliage forms a neat, low mound, perfect for edging shaded paths, filling gaps in rockeries, or as a textural element in container gardens. 'Blackfoot' prefers moist, well-drained soils rich in organic matter and will flourish in part shade to full shade conditions, which makes it well-suited to Melbourne’s climate. During summer, it sends up short flower scapes with pale lavender blooms that are subtly fragrant and attract pollinators. As a deciduous perennial, it dies back in winter and returns with fresh growth in spring, adding seasonal rhythm to the shaded garden.
