Common Name:
Beach Boy Hosta
Description:
Hosta 'Beach Boy' is a striking and compact variety of hosta prized for its vivid variegated foliage and lush, mounding form. This shade-loving perennial features heart-shaped leaves with creamy-yellow centres and wide, irregular blue-green margins that intensify in colour as the season progresses. The leaves are slightly corrugated and add bold texture to garden beds, borders, or shaded containers. 'Beach Boy' thrives in cool, moist, well-drained soils with plenty of organic matter and performs best when protected from harsh afternoon sun, making it ideal for Melbourne's temperate conditions. It is a slow to moderate grower and will develop into a tidy clump over time. In mid to late summer, tall scapes rise above the foliage bearing lavender to pale purple bell-shaped flowers, which attract bees and provide a soft contrast to the bold foliage. This hosta is deciduous, dying back in winter before emerging fresh in spring.
