Common Name: Palace Purple Coral Bells
Description: Heuchera 'Palace Purple' is a clump-forming perennial renowned for its striking foliage and delicate flowers. The plant forms a basal mound of maple- or ivy-like leaves, typically reaching up to 30 cm in height. The foliage color ranges from deep olive green to purplish-bronze on the upper surface, with a dark wine-red underside. In late spring to early summer, slender, dark red stems rise above the foliage, bearing tiny, pinkish-white, bell-shaped flowers. This cultivar was honored as the 1991 Perennial Plant of the Year.Â

Note: Heuchera 'Palace Purple' thrives in organically rich, well-drained soils. In Melbourne's climate, it performs best in part shade, especially during hot summers, to prevent leaf scorch. Regular watering is essential, but avoid waterlogging. Mulching can help retain soil moisture and keep roots cool. Dividing clumps every 3–4 years in spring will maintain plant vigor.
