Common Name:
Red Jewel Everlasting
Description:
Helichrysum amorginum 'Red Jewel' is a compact, low-growing perennial admired for its vivid red, papery flowers and silver-grey foliage. Native to the Greek island of Amorgos, this variety is well-adapted to dry, sunny conditions, making it a standout in Melbourne’s hot, dry summers. ‘Red Jewel’ produces masses of deep ruby-red buds that open into straw-like flowers from late spring through summer, retaining their colour and form even when dried—hence its common use in everlasting floral arrangements. Its soft, woolly foliage forms a tight mound and provides year-round texture and contrast. Ideal for rockeries, borders, or containers, this plant prefers full sun and sharply drained soil, and it thrives in coastal or Mediterranean-style gardens. It is drought-tolerant, low-maintenance, and highly decorative, offering a long season of colour with minimal fuss.
