Common Name:
Violette de Bordeaux Fig
Description:
Ficus carica 'Violette De Bordeaux' is a compact, productive fig variety prized for its small to medium-sized, deep purple to almost black fruit with richly flavoured, sweet red flesh. This heritage fig is well suited to Melbourne gardens, performing best in a warm, sunny position with well-drained soil and protection from harsh winds. It is naturally smaller growing than many other figs, making it a strong choice for courtyards, espalier, large pots, or productive garden beds. Deciduous in winter, it produces lush, lobed green foliage through the warmer months and crops in summer to early autumn once established. Regular watering during fruit development and a sunny aspect will help produce the best quality fruit.
