Common Name:
Giant Tractor Seat Plant
Description:
Farfugium ‘Giant Tractor Seat’ is a bold, evergreen perennial known for its dramatic, glossy foliage and tropical appearance. Named for its oversized, rounded leaves that resemble old-fashioned tractor seats, this architectural plant creates instant impact in shaded garden areas. The leathery, deep green leaves can grow up to 40 cm across, forming a lush, mounding clump. In late autumn to early winter, it sends up tall stems topped with bright yellow daisy-like flowers that provide cheerful contrast against the dark foliage. Ideal for Melbourne’s temperate climate, ‘Giant Tractor Seat’ thrives in part shade to full shade and prefers rich, moist, well-drained soil. It performs well in sheltered areas, including under trees, in shaded borders, or near water features. Though frost tender when young, it becomes more resilient with age. Excellent for adding texture and scale to subtropical or jungle-style gardens.
