Common Name:
European Beech
Description:
Fagus sylvatica, or the European Beech, is a majestic deciduous tree known for its smooth grey bark, dense foliage, and stunning seasonal colour changes. In spring and summer, its oval, glossy green leaves form a lush canopy, turning to striking shades of yellow, orange, and copper in autumn before falling. The tree produces small, inconspicuous flowers in spring, followed by triangular beech nuts encased in spiky husks, which attract birds and wildlife. European Beech thrives in well-drained, fertile soils and prefers a cool climate. It is often used as a stately specimen tree, in avenues, or for formal hedging when clipped regularly.
