Common Name:
Pineapple Lily ‘Dark Star’

Description:
Eucomis ‘Dark Star’ is a dramatic and architectural perennial prized for its rich, dark burgundy‑purple foliage and upright flower spikes that resemble exotic miniature pineapples. This striking form of pineapple lily produces sturdy stems topped with compact clusters of star‑shaped, green‑tinged flowers in late summer to autumn, set above broad, glossy leaves that emerge nearly black in colour. ‘Dark Star’ thrives in well‑drained soil enriched with organic matter and appreciates a sunny to lightly‑filtered position that encourages strong foliage colour and robust flowering. Well‑suited to Melbourne’s seasonal shifts, this variety stores energy in bulbous roots, allowing it to reshoot with vigour each year when given frost protection and adequate summer warmth. Use it as a bold structural accent in garden beds, mixed borders or large containers where its unique foliage and form can really shine.
