Description:
Dietes robinsoniana, commonly known as the Lord Howe Wedding Lily, is a rare and striking clumping perennial native to Lord Howe Island, off the coast of New South Wales. The largest of the Dietes species, it is known for its robust, iris-like foliage and tall, elegant flower stems. From late spring through summer, it produces large, white, iris-like flowers with soft yellow markings and subtle lilac tones at the petal bases. These flowers are borne in succession on tall stems that rise well above the foliage, creating a dramatic, stately effect. Dietes robinsoniana thrives in Melbourne gardens when planted in full sun to part shade with well-drained soil. It is especially well-suited to coastal gardens, public landscapes, and low-maintenance garden beds. Once established, it is drought-tolerant, tough, and long-lived, forming dense clumps that can be divided every few years to maintain vigour.
