Common Name:

Dianthus 'Double Crown'

Description:

Dianthus 'Double Crown' is a spectacular, long-flowering perennial renowned for its vibrant clusters of rich magenta-pink blooms, each featuring beautifully patterned petals with contrasting darker centres and delicate pale edges. The masses of small, intricately detailed flowers are held in rounded clusters above compact, deep green foliage, creating a striking display of colour throughout the warmer months. With its naturally bushy, upright growth habit and prolific flowering performance, this eye-catching variety is ideal for cottage gardens, mixed borders, mass plantings and decorative pots. Growing to approximately 30 cm tall and 40 cm wide, it forms a neat, colourful mound that provides excellent impact in smaller garden spaces. Well suited to Melbourne's temperate climate, Dianthus 'Double Crown' thrives in full sun and well-drained soil, tolerating light partial shade while flowering most abundantly in sunny positions. Its extended flowering season provides vibrant colour from spring through summer and into autumn, particularly when spent flowers are regularly removed. The nectar-rich blooms also attract beneficial pollinators, including bees and butterflies. Hardy, relatively low maintenance and moderately drought tolerant once established, this charming perennial is an excellent choice for gardeners seeking a reliable, long-lasting floral display with minimal fuss.
