Common Name: Pale Flax-Lily

Description: Dianella longifolia, commonly known as Pale Flax-Lily, is a tufted, perennial herb native to Australia. It features slender, strap-like leaves that can reach up to 80 cm in length, forming dense clumps. During spring and summer, this plant produces delicate, star-shaped flowers ranging in color from pale blue to white or greenish hues, each adorned with pale yellow anthers. These blossoms give way to shiny, pale blue berries, adding visual interest to the garden. Pale Flax-Lily thrives in well-drained soils and is adaptable to both full sun and semi-shaded positions. It is drought-tolerant once established and can withstand frost, making it suitable for various Australian climates, including Melbourne. This hardy plant is often utilized in revegetation projects and serves as an excellent ground cover or accent plant in garden settings.
